Daniel T. Ramsdell

Dan Ramsdell is the Founder and National Director of the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America, L.L.C. Dan, at age 17, and his mother, who was his passenger, were both injured in a vehicular accident with a negligent truck driver.

Dan was the President of his senior class at Parkview High School in Springfield, MO, and was the recipient of the Missouri Curators Award for high scholastic achievement, graduating in 1968. Dan graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in December of 1971, a semester early, with a B.S. degree in Marketing. While in college, Dan was an invited member of Pi Omega Pi, the Scholastic Honor Society for Business majors.

Dan was appointed by the Dean of the law school to serve as the Student Director of the Texarkana Prison Project, which was a law firm of law students who were permitted, by special rule, to actually practice law before graduation from law school. This law firm provided post conviction relief to indigent inmates in federal prison in the Texarkana Federal Prison. At the time, this was the largest law firm in Arkansas.

Dan was elected Vice President of the Student Bar Association, and while in law school, was the State Director of the University of Arkansas Legal Research Bureau.

Dan is a past elected Chairman of AAJ’s, Interstate Trucking Litigation Group, and held several offices in that group. He is a member of the American Bar Association, and serves on the Trial Practice Committee of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association. Dan served on the Board of Governors of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and is also an invited member of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association. Dan has been named a Missouri-Kansas Super Lawyer in Plaintiff’s Personal Injury in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, and 2011 and was selected to Super Lawyers - Seriously Outstanding - Top 5%. In 2007, Mr. Ramsdell was named by Law Dragon as one of the Leading Plaintiff’s Lawyers in America. In 1991, in a medical malpractice wrongful death case, Mr. Ramsdell obtained for his client a verdict in the amount of $25,329,000, which for that year, was the 10th largest verdict in the entire United States.

Dan has on multiple occasions obtained recoveries of one million dollars or more on behalf of plaintiffs in interstate trucking cases. There are numerous articles in legal publications regarding the results Dan has obtained for his clients in personal injury cases.

In State vs. Cruzen, one of the most publicized capital murder cases in Missouri history, Mr. Ramsdell was the first criminal defense lawyer in the history of Missouri jurisprudence, over the objection of the State, to obtain the Court’s approval to permit his client to actually participate in addressing the jury during voir dire. Pursuant to his client’s right to represent himself, Mr. Ramsdell had his client enter his appearance in the case on his own behalf, as co-counsel with Mr. Ramsdell, who was retained counsel. Mr. Ramsdell’s “co-counsel” client was acquitted in the lengthy trial, after an alleged confession of his client was introduced into evidence, and after the state had called over 110 witnesses against the defendant.

Mr. Ramsdell is a contributing author to the best-selling book “Truck Accident Litigation, Second Edition”, published by the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Dan has over three decades of experience practicing law, and is a former business law instructor at Missouri State University in Springfield. Mr. Ramsdell practices law at The Ramsdell Law Firm, L.L.C., in Springfield, Missouri, where his practice now focuses on the representation of plaintiffs in cases involving wrongful death, catastrophic injury and interstate trucking accidents.

Mr. Ramsdell is frequently retained and consulted by attorneys from across the United States in interstate trucking cases. He is the national moderator for the new and very popular West LegalEd - Thomson-Reuters sponsored webcast series called: “Trucking Tuesdays.” This program is designed to provide cutting edge information, tools and trial tactics to “plaintiff lawyers only” in the area of interstate trucking litigation, and is being touted as one of the most successful plaintiff lawyer webcast series in America today.

Through the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America, National Director Ramsdell works with hundreds of plaintiff lawyers from across America in an effort to reduce the numbers of catastrophic injuries and deaths that occur each year on our highways, caused by unsafe or illegally operating interstate trucking companies. To accomplish its mission, APITLAmerica and its National Director Dan Ramsdell use the three (3) tools of learning, litigation and legislation. This association puts on some of the finest CLEs in the country in the area of interstate trucking litigation and works hard to get good cases to good lawyers. They also provide helpful information to truck accident victims on their website.

Mr. Ramsdell has been a frequent C.L.E. speaker for state and national trial lawyer associations on the subject of interstate trucking litigation and is considered by his peers to be one of the most knowledgeable lawyers in America on the topic. He also currently serves on the Executive Committee of the American Trial Lawyers Association.
